Part 3

One or the Other

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Intro: One of the amazing things about a transformation is crystal clear – you cannot be two different things at the same time.

You will either be one thing, or you will be the other.

Nobody has ever seen a caterpillar flying around with butterfly wings.

·        2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

There are many contrasts given in the Bible between the believer and the unbeliever.

NOTE: the growth of a Christian is never-ending. But a baby Christian is still a Christian.

Here are just a few of them.

You will be one or the other:

1. Believer or Unbeliever

·        2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers…

John 10

·        25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.

·        26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

·        27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

·        28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

·        29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

2. Lost or Saved

·        2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

·        Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

1 Timothy 2

·        3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

·        4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

·        Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

3. Dead or Alive

·        Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

·        Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

·        Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

4. Blind or Seeing

·        2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

John Newton wrote the song Amazing Grace. One of the lines in the song says, “I once was blind but now I see.”

5. In Light or In Darkness

·        Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

·        Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

·        1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

·        Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them

1 John 1

·        6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

·        7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

6. Child of God or a Child of Satan

·        John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

·        1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

·        John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.

7. Godly or Ungodly

Psalm 1

·        4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

·        5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

·        6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

8. Spiritual or Carnal

1 Corinthians 3

·        1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

·        2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

·        3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
