Thankful
Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Intro: I’m getting ready to put on some weight.
Bought me some sweat pants to match my suit coat.
I came from the part of the South where gravy is considered a beverage!
Our idea of vegetables is carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.
The emphasis of this chapter is “the Lord.”
God is mentioned ONCE, LORD is mentioned FOUR times.
The words HE, HIM OR HIS is mentioned 11 times.
That is 16 references to God in just 5 verses.
Let’s admit it – without Him, we wouldn’t have much to be thankful for!
In verse 1, we see the International Mandate. Make a joyful noise…all ye lands.
In verse 2, we see the Inspirational Master. Serve the Lord with gladness…
In verse 3, we see the Intentional Maker. it is he that hath made us…
In verse 4, we see the Invitational Miracle. that we could be granted access to His gates and His courts!
In verse 5, we see the Instructional Mercy – His mercy is everlasting and his truth endureth to all generations.
David gave a list of seven things of God that God has shared with us.
1. I’m Thankful for His Presence – vs. 2
2. I’m Thankful for His People – vs. 3
3. I’m Thankful for His Pasture – vs. 3
4. I’m Thankful for His Gates – vs. 4
5. I’m Thankful for His Name – vs. 4
· Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
· His name brings Salvation - Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
· His name brings Identification - 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name
6. I’m Thankful for His Mercy – vs. 5b
7. I’m Thankful for His Truth – vs. 5c
Conclusion: The message tonight is simple – I’m thankful for God.
