Stirred
Exodus 35:21
Intro: One of the greatest capabilities of the child of God is be able to be stirred.
If the day comes when you cannot be stirred, you are in trouble!
Hebrew: STIRRED: to lift, bear up, carry, take
Greek: STIR: to kindle up, inflame one’s mind, strength, zeal
to wake up, awaken, arouse (from sleep)
In other words, the stirring is an emotional appeal that produces a moving.
Not just emotion, but action.
Being stirred means you are awakened, kindled, aroused to bear up, carry and to lift.
I. Stirred about the Place of Worship
· Exodus 35:21 And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.
· Exodus 35:26 And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goats’ hair.
· Exodus 36:2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
II. Stirred about Partaking in the Work
2 Timothy 1
· 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
· 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
· 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
· 9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
· 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
· 11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
· 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
· 13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
· 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
III. Stirred about the Promises of the Word – 2 Peter 1:4-15
· 2 Peter 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
· 2 Peter 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
IV. Stirred about the Plight of the World
· Acts 17:16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
· Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
Conclusion: I noticed an interesting truth in these verses that we’ve looked at tonight.
The children of Israel’s heart stirred them up.
Timothy was admonished by Paul to stir up himself.
Peter wrote to the saints in order to stir them up.
We can stir up ourselves, and we can stir up others.
When was the last time you were stirred?
When was the last time you allowed God to use you to stir up someone else?
