How Much More Do You Need?

2 Peter 1

·        3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

·        4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Intro: The Bible clearly tell us that God has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

That means we have everything we need in order to live both a successful life as well as a successful spiritual life.

A. God has given us His Son.

·        John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

B. God has given us His Spirit.

1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

·        16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

·        17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

·        18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

C. God has given us His Scriptures.

·        Psalms 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

D. God has given us His Shepherd.

·        Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

NOTE: The word for “pastor” in Spanish is “pastor” – and is the same word for shepherd.

·        Jeremiah 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

E. God has given us the Saints

Do you know how many people do not have a Christian family to encourage them?

Do you know how many people do not have other brothers and sisters in the Lord to worship with?

F. God has given us His Servants

I am so thankful for all the men of God that have ministered to me in my life.

Preachers, teachers, evangelists, Sunday School teachers, and more.

All given to me by God to help me be everything He wants me to be.

We could go on and on about what all God has given us.

But here is my question – what has He NOT given you?

·        How much more do you need to be a successful Christian?

·        How much more do you need to be an obedient Christian?

·        How much more do you need to get busy doing something for God?

·        How much more do you need to feel like you’ve got enough to get started?

I. Gospel do you need to hear to get saved?

II. Preaching do you need to hear for it to start working?

1 Thessalonians 2:9-12

·        9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

·        10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

·        11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

·        12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

·        13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

III. Money do you need to make to start giving?

2 Corinthians 9

·        6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

·        7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

The doctors in Nicaragua make about $400 a week.

Some of the men in the Bible College where we just taught make $200 a month.

I watched them give to one of the men that had his wallet stolen.

I watched them put money in the offering every night of the Leadership Conference.

IV. Missionaries do you need to hear to get a burden for the world?

·        Acts 14:27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

V. Prayer requests do you need to hear to start praying?

·        1 Thessalonians 5:25 Brethren, pray for us.

·        2 Thessalonians 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

·        Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

VI. Examples do you need to live right?

1 Corinthians 10

·        5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

·        6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

·        7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

·        8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

·        9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

·        10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

VII. Training do you need to start serving?

John 13

·        14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

·        15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

·        16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

·        17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

Conclusion: The fact is, you and I will stand before God and give an account of what He’s already given us.

·        Luke 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

SOBERING THOUGHT: “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required”
