Give Him All You've Got - Pastor Stacey Shiflett

Give Him All You’ve Got!

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Intro: One of the biggest struggles for a Christian is to not get distracted and fail to give it all you’ve got when it comes to spiritual things.

I’ve heard it said many times, “There’s just not enough of me to go around!”

God doesn’t want the leftovers.

God doesn’t want the fragments.

God wants it all.

He wants all of us.

ILLUSTRATION: When we God saved, we believed with all our heart.

·       Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Over and over again, the Bible commands us to give God everything we’ve got.

Not a half-hearted Christianity.

He wants us to give Him all we’ve got.

In our text, Jesus urged His disciples to love the Lord thy God will all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

In two other places it includes WITH ALL THY STRENGTH.

·       Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

·       Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

This is not a state of mind.

This is not a state of being.

This is an action – one of extreme effort and exertion.

When was the last time you worked up a sweat doing something for God?

When was the last time you exerted yourself in a demonstration of love for Him?

When was the last time you got tired after something you did to impact eternity?

1. Seek God (with all you’ve got).

·       Psalms 119:2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

·       Psalms 119:10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

2. Trust God (with all you’ve got).

·       Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

3. Obey God (with all you’ve got).

·       Deuteronomy 26:16 This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

·       Deuteronomy 30:2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;

·       Deuteronomy 30:10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

·       Psalms 119:69 The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.

·       Psalms 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

4. Praise God (with all you’ve got).

·       Psalms 9:1 I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

·       Psalms 111:1 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

·       Psalms 138:1 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.

ILLUSTRATION: The lame man in Acts 3:8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

5. Praying to God (with all you’ve got).

·       Psalms 119:58 I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

·       Psalms 119:145 I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.

The effectual fervent prayer…availeth much!!

6. Serve God (with all you’ve got).

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
