A Unique Birth
A Christmas Poem by Pastor Stacey Shiflett
12/24/25
Â
Imagine a birth so unique and so rare
That God recorded what all happened there.
From the words of the angel to a sweet virgin girl,
A message that would forever transform the world.
Â
A birth where the father was not from this earth
And the mother was a virgin; a maid of great worth.
Not for her riches did Gabriel applaud,
But for her virtue and holiness and favor with God.
Â
The man she was to marry was not the babe’s father
And in a moment of weakness, he almost squandered.
The opportunity to help raise God’s only Son.
His heart was troubled at what Mary had done.
Â
‘Til the angel confirmed that Mary was pure
And that the baby inside her was God’s Son for sure.
The Holy Ghost overshadowed her and planted him there.
The God-man was her child and her honor to bear.
Â
The call went out across all the earth
For the taxing to be at the place of one’s birth.
The journey was far and by God’s grace they made it.
Joseph and Mary at the City of David.
Â
When they came to Bethlehem the time had drawn near
The season of birth for the baby was here.
Yet no one had room for this Present from Heaven
And into a stable the couple was driven.
Â
The King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords
Was laid in a manger of straw and old boards.
No doctor or midwife to help them that night;
But the babe was delivered; everything was all right.
Â
For never a birth like this has occurred
That from the heavens the song of the angels was heard.
Never before this - had it been so
That shepherds in fields were commanded to go
Â
And witness the birth of a baby so dear
The message they heard was amazing to hear.
Glory to God in the Highest; peace, goodwill to men.
The shepherds left their flocks and departed right then.
Â
And came to the place where the baby was laid
And found it just as the angels had said.
They left out rejoicing over what they had seen.
Announcing to all the birth of the King.
Â
Wise men heard of His birth in the East.
And came bringing gifts to lay at His feet.
They fell on their knees and worshipped the One
That they soon learned was God’s Only Son.
Â
It’s easy to get caught up in the noise and the lights.
With family and friends and tasty delights.
But let us remember in this Christmas Season.
That the Birth of our Savior Jesus Christ is the Reason.
Â
It’s the Reason we sing and the Reason we pray.
It’s the Reason we rejoice and celebrate.
‘Cause the birth of that baby so long ago
Made a way for our sins to be whiter than snow.
Â
Made it possible for sinners that deserved to die.
To a thrice-holy God be allowed to draw nigh.
To have His forgiveness, His mercy and Grace
And live in the glow of our dear Father’s face.
Â
It was that birth so unique and so rare
That God recorded what all happened there.
From the words of the angel to the sweet virgin girl,
A message that would forever transform the world.
