A Colt Tied

A Colt Tied

Mark 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

Intro: This little colt has been on my mind for several days. While on my trip to Idaho, I saw a horse tied to the top rail of a fence in front of a barn. This verse came to mind.

I. The Picture of the Colt Tied

There are several conclusions that we can draw from this statement.

A. This colt being tied is a picture of PROPERTY.

1 Corinthians 6

· 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

· 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

We need to realize that we’ve been purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ and we belong to Him!

B. This colt being tied is a picture of PROTECTION.

The fact that its owner tied it up means he didn’t want it to stray away.

ILLUSTRATION: 1 Samuel 9 – Saul’s father’s asses were lost. Took them three days to find them.

Thank God for someone that loves you enough to tie you down!

Thank God for preaching that ties you down!

C. This colt being tied is a picture of PLANS.

Instead of being turned loose in the pasture, or in the barn, it was tied.

This means that there was imminent plans for it to be put to use.

· Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

II. The Plans for the Colt Tied

God had plans for that colt long before he knew it.

· It was small, but God knew about it.

· It was stationary, but God knew where it was.

· It was simple, but God needed it.

Nothing blows my mind more than the revelation of truth in verse 3 – the Lord hath need of him.

Why would the Creator of the universe need a small, simple colt?

This colt was green, unbroken, inexperienced and unproven, but God needed him.

What this tells me is this – God can and will use anything and anybody that is willing and available.

III. The Place of the Colt Tied

Tied by the door.

· That door is a picture of new opportunities.

· That door is a picture of new discoveries.

· That door is a picture of new possibilities, and new relationships, and new experiences.

And he was tied down BY THE DOOR.

People were coming in and going out, but not him.

He was tied; he was restricted; he was limited; he was going nowhere, doing nothing.

What a lot of people think is a negative was actually a positive.

Being restricted was a requirement.

That colt being tied down was one of the greatest blessings in his life.

The Bible says that he was in a place where two ways met.

Imagine how he felt watching all the other colts going and coming.

· I wonder if he felt left out.

· I wonder if he felt abandoned.

· I wonder if he watched them and wanted what they had.

· He saw those two ways and wondered where they led.

· Wondered what was over the horizon.

· I wonder if he stood and thought about which way he would take if he had the chance.

But he was tied down.

IV. The Part of the Colt Tied

No doubt this colt got impatient being tied down.

But God had a timetable.

God had a plan.

God knew where that colt was, and He came for him.

And because he was patient, God let him be a part of something unimaginable.

A. The Loosening of the Colt

This colt’s life changed dramatically when God decided to loose him.

NOTE: You don’t want to be turned loose unless God is the One doing it.

The secret is to wait and let God do it.

There is a big difference in the outcome of your life when you are the one that does the loosening, and when God gives the green light.

Our churches are filled with people that didn’t wait for God to do the loosening, and they regret it.

I can’t stress this enough – wait for God to turn you loose.

Don’t cut loose without God!!

Whether you are a young person, or a single person, or a preacher, or a missionary – don’t cut loose without God!

B. The Leading of the Colt

When God loosens you, He will lead you. – vs. 2 “…loose him, and bring him.”

And mark this down – When God looses you, He will ALWAYS bring you to Jesus! – vs. 7

God never loosens someone for them to go off on their own and do their own thing.

God loosens, and then God will lead you to the purpose for which you were loosened.

ILLUSTRATION: God saved Saul on the road to Damascus, and then He told him exactly where to go and what to do.

C. The Loading of the Colt

Let me say this – being a part of something supernatural should be every person’s dream!

I don’t think it was possible for this colt to ever imagine what God had in store for him.

When he was tied down by the door where two ways met, he never dreamed that he would get to be apart of anything like this.

1. He got to carry the Garments

He was no longer a simple, small, insignificant, untried, untested, untrained colt. He was wearing the garments of the disciples.

He was now identifying with the handpicked, choice servants of God.

2. He got to carry God

He got to be a part of something he never imagined.

Because he had been tied down, whereupon no man had ever sat, God chose to set down on him.

There is no greater honor – no greater privilege than for it to be said that you had God on you!

Furthermore, this colt got to be a part of LIFTING UP JESUS CHRIST!

As Jesus rode through the city, the people were not looking at the colt; they were looking at Jesus!
